Before the course, I did understand the basics of how to create standard triads in C major. I did NOT know how to transpose chords to other keys or how to use the number system for chords. Also, I did not understand anything about inversions, so while we only touched on that subject, it was just enough to make the concept click for me. After watching the video, I tried out the link to play along with Sally Gardens in G major. I used rolled chords, and it sounded great! This is very exciting! I can’t wait to experiment with accompanying my husband on his guitar! This has opened up a whole new world for me. Thank you!

A terrific COurse, applying basic chord theory to simple chord sheets.
Christy Lynn is able to demystify the theory and take us on the journey, well supported.
An asset to have continued access, so that we can return to the course when we want to learn a bit more.
If you are a real beginner, its handy to pick up a little at a time and return to absorb a bit more each time. Thank you
I can look forward to the 2nd class now.:)

I do read music and understand about chord. However, this course is so wonderful and so are the teachers, that it helped me to remember to keep it simple and well done. I found it easier to play with chords after I watched the video!

This is a great workshop for those who have never played chords before, or who aren’t familiar with the numbering system. If you are trying to figure out more complex chord symbols like Asus or Gm7, that will not be answered here, but if you aren’t sure what that C or F means at the top of your music or in guitar music, this will explain all that to you! Although I am somewhat familiar with chords, I did learn some new information!

I feel like Christy Lyn has given me some wonderful tools in a simple and clear way that I will be able to practice and use in my harp playing. I am excited about this, especially since I have a small 19 string harp. Thank you.

Christy-Lyn taught this chord theory in a simple and clear fashion. I was somewhat aware of using chords to embellish a piece, but was never really sure of myself. I think the veil has been lifted!

Really a useful and accessible workshop for learning the beginnings of music theory related to keys and chords. Would it be possible for me to get the handouts for this workshop since i am taking it as a video course rather than a “live” course?

Loved this workshop. Although I will sometimes play chords I didn’t always understand why or when. (Embarrassing I know). Now I have a better understanding. It was not difficult and I learned important skills. Thank you!

This was a wonderful and perfect basic, foundational workshop! It was really helpful for filling in a number of gaps in my basic musical theory knowledge. I’ve been playing the hammered dulcimer for 14 years but have never really understood the basis of the notes on the sheet music.

This workshop is really for beginners who hvae no background knowledge on chords. For for musicians with some music background, especially on chords or triads, they may find this too basic.

At first was a bit lost, as I hadn’t looked at or printed out the handouts, so I had no idea what it meant to tune a harp to different notes or keys. Once I did that it wasn’t so baffling. The playing from chords part was very easy to understand and to follow. It even inspired me to figure out a song by ear, and then to find some songs to play along with.

It is an amazing workshop! I learned so much, and was so inspired. I knew nothing about playing from chords before this, but everything was explained so clearly that I feel ready to print off some chord sheets and give it a try. I can’t wait to accompany my grandpa on his violin!

I chose this course because my favorite music to play on my harp is using popular music lead sheets and preferably in the key of C. This is such a great video/introduction that explains the basics to find the most important chords (4) and why. I thought I was signing up for something at my intermediate level of chord arrangements. But guess what? I still got a great review of the basics and the encouragement to try playing in other keys. That alone was worth the price of admission! Thank you for your very clear instruction, Christy-Lyn!

Wow! Very clear and informative. I am a beginner harp player and this knowledge was great. I like the advice about choosing a (simple) song I like, getting the chord sheet, finding the song on youtube and playing along. How cool is that for a beginner?!

I just watched the workshop Playing from chords 1, and I loved it.
Really very clearly explained and a very handy handout to print out.
As an early beginner this gives me a lot more options to play along with songs.
I’m going to see if I can find some cords sheets on the internet and practice!
Thanks Christy-Lyn :)!

HI Christy-Lyn, I watched the replay of the Playing from Chords Part 1 workshop and thought it was excellent. I had joined the last Harp Grove and enjoyed it, but as a beginner, it was a bit of a mystery! Now it all makes sense. I thought the way you explained chords was so clear and easy to follow. I’m really excited to start playing songs from chords. Thanks so much, Kerry
