  • When sharping my F, a loud sound happens, like I’m playing it!

Yesterday, while playing a song that needed an F sharp, I heard the “note’ being played (pretty loudly!) when putting the lever up! Same as the E note next to it, but a bit softer. No other levers do that at the moment! I realize I have not ever had my harp regulated nor the strings replaced since purchasing my harp five years ago! I called the place where I bought my harp and made an appointment to take it in to be have it restrung and then later, regulated. I won’t have my harp for three weeks since the regulator only comes twice a month! And strings need to be replaced at least 10 days before it is regulated! No harp from March 2 – 23rd 🙁

Does anyone know why the string/lever is making that noise when it is raised?

This happens when the sharping mechanism is not totally parallel to the string. Then the lever should loosened a little bit and shifted so it becomes parallel to the string. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, Markus! I appreciate your explanation. I got my harp back on the 16th, but other than constantly tuning it daily, have not really had the time to sit down and play. So today, I started to play it, but that F lever (and now the G lever!) does that same thing! The strings were changed and it was regulated, but I never thought to try the levers (camac) while there at the shop. So, long story even longer, I’m taking my harp back to the shop on the 6th of April (since the person who works on harps will be in April 9th) and have it fixed! Thank you – I’m happy it is something that can be fixed! I’m sorry it took me so long to see your reply and to thank you!

I am glad to hear that 👍. A technically perfect harp is the prerequisite for a beautiful harp sound.
