Anyone have any advice about using a metronome in practice? I feel I wasn’t getting the timing correct, so I reluctantly broke out my metronome app on my phone ( called Tempo). I feel it’s going to help, because I don’t want to keep practicing a piece incorrectly. I’m taking it at a slow speed, and going measure by measure. I’m finding some tricky parts, and then playing just a few measures over and over until I have the timing right. Thoughts?

That is exactly how to progress!! Keep it slow and the metronome keeps the even rhythm which is very helpful if one doesn’t have a seriously good inner “ticker”. Haha

Yes, using a metronome can be super super helpful in a song, especially once you have most of the notes learned, enough that you can focus on your rhythm. Make sure you keep it nice and slow at first, you should never feel like you are racing to catch up to the metronome ticks.

Another thing that can help with a tricky rhythm is counting out loud, to find where the notes land in the measure.
