Tuning off with lever change
Posted by Mayra King on 16 November, 2022 at 4:07 amAfter I tune my harp, if I need to do a lever change the note is off key. This is the case with many of my strings. I bought my harp 7 years ago and have played it often. Has anyone had experience with this or recommend anything I could do?
Thanks!

Sounds like your levers might need regulation. Do you know when was the last time the levers got regulated?

Thank you so much. I never heard of having the levers regulated. I bought the harp new so it’s never been done. Could you tell me a little more about that. Is it something done regularly?

Here is a Harp Tuesday video from Canadian harpist Josh Layne on harp regulation. He gives an overview of what harp regulation is and demo regulating his Camac harp (with Camac levers) and his Lyon & Healy pedal harp: https://youtu.be/6rPy3ammiR0 If you know what kind of levers are on your harp, you can most likely look up information on how to regulate them on the Internet. If your harp have not been serviced for 7 years, it may not be a bad idea for a harp tech to check out your harp and do the regulation as well.

You can also read about regulation in this page on the Dusty Strings website: https://manufacturing.dustystrings.com/harps/maintenance-troubleshooting

You can do it yourself. Who made your harp and what brand of levers does it have? Loveland. Camac, Truitt levers are most common.

It’s a Blevins harp. I’m not sure what levers it has but Truitt sounds familiar. I‘ve still got a lot to still learn about harps:)
