I played a walnut Thormahlen Ceili with fluorocarbon strings about a year ago and absolutely fell in love. I ended up getting a cherry Triplett Eclipse (with Loveland levers that I’m not a fan of) because it was a great deal on Facebook marketplace. I love my harp but I often dream about having a Thormahlen Ceili. Or maybe I just wish my harp had fluorocarbon strings and camac levers. I’m just curious if anybody has both or has played both and what your opinions are of them?

Totally agree about the Loveland levers. I have them on my older model Triplett Catalina and really hate them. I was thinking of having them changed to Camacs, but Triplett offered me a generous trade-in deal for a brand new Catalina that will have Camac levers and a built-in pickup. I love the Catalina, so I’m really excited about upgrading to a new, better model. It will be here in 4 months and I can’t wait! It’s worth calling Triplett and talking to Debbi about this. She may offer you a great trade-in like she did for me. Let me know what you decide!

Oh wow that’s good to know! I will probably be in touch with her then to discuss that possibility. Mine was built in 99 but it is in excellent condition. I wonder what kind of deal I would get? I bet shipping would be quite expensive though. Thanks so much for that info!

Debbi estimated shipping from CA to MA would be around $250 each way.

I have played neither, though I absolutely put lever choices first when comes to harp shopping. I play a Dusty Strings Crescendo 34. I custom ordered mine because the standard set up comes with Loveland levers and I wanted Camac levers on my harp. US harpist Carol Kappus speaks highly of her Thormahlen Ceili, and she also have a Triplett Eclipse. Judging from what she wrote abut her harps in her website, it looks like the Ceili and the Eclipse are very different harps! http://carolkappus.com/harps/ Maybe you need both? 😉

Wow thanks! It’s nice to see someone’s opinion who owns both. Good point about them being very different harps. I would absolutely love to have both. Not sure I can justify having 3 harps because of space and money. But I reaalllly would love to have both. I’m also having a double strung Marini made for me for a travel harp.

I know your feeling! When my daughter started learning the harp, we didn’t really know how that would go in the long run and we really could only justify having one harp. We rented two harps which was immensely helpful for understanding what we want from our forever harp. In the end I choose a 34 string harp that is well balanced in tone and a full set of level so it is suitable for playing a wide range of music, and also have different leg heights so we can adjust the harp as my daughter grows. A couple of years and two more harp learners in the house later, it still remains a favourite amongst us. I have more harps now, but if you were to ask me to keep one only I know exactly which harp that is and why. Maybe you can ask yourself that same question to and see what your answer is. 🙂

Thanks for your input! Yeah, I had looked into the idea of switching levers and strings and decided against doing so. I really would like to try the two harps side by side. Hopefully soon I can do that so I know what I really like best!
