  • Thinking of selling my Harpsicle

Posted by Katherine Lowe on 3 August, 2022 at 3:47 pm

I’ve found that I’m not playing my Harpsicle. I have the Flatsicle model with levers on the B, C and F strings. I had thought I might use it for visiting with homebound people and for traveling, but so far, I’ve only taken it once on an extended vacation. We usually travel for about a week at a time and I’ve found it’s less hassle to not bring it along. Will I regret selling it? I’ve listed it in a few places without any interest so far and now I’m wondering if I should just hold onto it for a while longer. Have you sold a harp that you later regretted letting go of?

I haven’t had to sell a harp so far, although I have a Fireside harp that I thought I would bring with me when traveling and I have yet to do that. 😌 I came to the conclusion that I prefer playing on a floor harp, and I made peace with not having a harp with me when I travel (which I don’t do a lot anyway).

I took the harp once to Florida when we went there for 3 weeks and was glad I had it. It was not problem (then) of finding an empty overhead bin to put it in all by itself, but worrying about it the whole time is stressful. Since then we’ve only been away for a week or so at a time and I haven’t brought it and was busy enough that I didn’t miss it or the obligation to play it. The decision might be made for me if no one expresses interest.

It might take some month before someone wants to buy your harp but then you will find that this person is very happy to get your harp🙂. I sold my little travel harp and enjoyed the contact with the Lady who bought it. I felt relieved afterwards because I much prefered playing my big harp and always had to force myself not to neglect the little one.

Katherine… I have a Flatsicle which I dearly love — it has all the levers it needs — keeps in tune exceptionally well — and is super light to carry. I just wanted to boost interest in the one you are selling. Hope this helps.l

Thank you! I’m still torn about whether or not to sell it. No takers so far, so I’m fine with holding onto it for the time being.

I recently sold my Harpsicle as I bought a floor harp with levers. I was sad to see the Harpsicle go as it was my very own first harp after renting a harp for three months, but once I got my new harp my Harpsicle was just sitting in the corner of my room not getting used. I don’t regret selling it though as I was pleased it was able to go to a new home for someone else to enjoy.

I still have mine – no takers yet, but I’m thinking that’s okay, at least for now. I promised to bring my harp to my church’s women’s retreat next March, so it will be much more convenient to bring the Harpsicle than my 34-string Triplett Catalina.

I don’t regret selling my harpsicle. It founded my love for playing harp, but once I played my Troubadour, I knew the harpsicle was not a good fit for me. I did sell it and buy a Marini Bass Lap harp because I love taking it outside and playing. It’s sound and string spacing suit me much better.

I’m glad you’ve found a new harp that you love. I’ve ordered a new Triplett Catalina (same model I have now, but with better levers and a built-in pickup) that will be ready in December. I’m not worried about selling the Harpsicle at this point and haven’t had any offers yet anyway.

I have been trying to sell my harpsicle which is a “special edition” but no luck so far. I have a feeling I won’t regret selling it, as I have just acquired a DS Allegro which is far superior in sound and in wood, in my humble opinion. Also, I recently parted from my Ogden once I decided against the pedal harp route. No regrets because I love my FH-34. Interesting topic.

Sally, I have a harpsicle but really want a special edition because of the levers. I would love to look into your harp. How long have you had it? Is there any damage( scratches, dents, etc…) Or previous damage that you may have fixed? Have you had to change any strings and how old are they? If you could send me your listing page or a way to contact you, this is something I’m serious about and really like to look into.

I’ve only had one inquiry, from someone who wants to learn but hasn’t started yet. I encouraged her to rent a harp and take some lessons before purchasing anything.

I guess I haven’t bonded with it since I’m not drawn to playing it as I am with my Triplett Catalina. My first harp was a 26-string Stoney End given to me by my daughter-in-law that I gave back to her when I bought my Triplett. Maybe I should have held onto that one! I think I’ll just wait and see if anyone is interested in the Harpsicle (no one is so far) and then decide or maybe just end up keeping it by default.

I haven’t sold a harp yet but had considered at one point selling my fullsicle to get the sonnet by Musicmakers. But I just took it camping with me and enjoyed it so much. The thing I wanted to mention is that maybe we should see about a buy/sell forum here for people to sell their harps or buy their dream harp.

I think that’s a good idea. I actually was looking for such a forum, but didn’t want to break any rules here by trying to post it as a for-sale listing.

I am in a similar situation, but I like my Flatsicle too much to consider selling it. So I am considering buying a second harp – The Sonnet by Musicmakers. now I am wondering if I will hear a big difference in tone? Maybe you can share with me your particular reasons to upgrade? 😅

I upgraded because I had progressed to music that required more strings. There is quite a big difference in sound between the Harpsicle and my Triplett Catalina, but the Harpsicle doesn’t sound bad, just different.

I mostly play my 34 string Triplett Catalina because the music I play required more strings than I have on the Harpsicle. Also, the sound is quite different and I much prefer the deep resonance of my bigger harp.

Thanks, I understand. In my former life – 20 years back – I had big floor harps — that were awesome. Now the weight is a big factor – so Harpsicle was what I thought I could handle. I do like it for portability and string tension and starting over. My new harp on order is a Sonnet and I will get a couple more strings – I think the soundboard will give me the bigger tone I am looking for. It is still manageable at 10 lbs. Any feedback from Sonnet players is appreciated. Happy Harpin’. 🎶
