    Hi Everyone,

I just had my first experience with a spontaneous string break on my Dusty Strings FH34S. It was string 23- my nylon wrapped G string. I was in the room and boy did it startle me! Yikes!

Some general questions: Is it ok to continue to tune and play the harp until the new string arrives?

Any advice or helpful videos for the re-string process would be appreciated.

This will be my first time changing a string.

Thank you in advance! Cheers- Beth

I watched many tutorials how to change a string and the one by Sylvia Woods was the one that finally helped me the most.

I now change a string without being nervous. I use string buttons though so I don’t have to make the knot because that really gave me a hard time.

Thank you so much Christina! I so appreciate the video link and I have the buttons already, just waiting on the string to arrive.

you can tune and play the harp as normal, there is no problem for your harp; only for you, because of the missing string 😉

Well I got the new string and put it on. 1) Is it normal for it to require a LOT of tuning due to the string stretching? 2) How many winds around the tuning pin is too many? Again thank you all for your help. Beth

yes it is normal to tune a new string several times till it is stable (some days). The string should be wound around the peg 3 to 4 times. You can watch the video of this guy:

Hey thanks again for your help Markus. 😃 the harp has just started the 4th wrap around the tuning pin, perhaps next time I need to pull it tighter before I start winding it. I haven’t trimmed it yet so I might “redo” it.
