• Harp in Dorm?

Unfortunately, my university told me that I could not store my harp in the music building. Therefore, I will need to keep the instrument in my dorm. While I have enough space in my dorm, I am worried about temperature fluctuations, dust, and other similar potential problems. Do you think I can keep my harp in my dorm room? Have you kept your harp in a dorm or known anyone who has? I would like to keep my harp in the best condition possible, especially because it is a rental. It is a Lyon and Healy Ogden.

I don’t think keeping it in the dorm should be an issue. If it’s a floor harp, you definitely want to make sure you get a dorm on the main floor. Stairs could be an issue. I would keep an eye on the thermostat and look into getting a case for it. 🙂

I would check into harp insurance especially with a rental; accidents (and theft) do happen. The other concern is humidity levels. Many dorms are dry. Can you humidify if needed? Will you be able to place your harp in indirect light? Do you have a padded cover? Can it be placed in a non traffic area?
