While playing, I feel my hands look “crunchy”, like they are not free and open like when I watch CL or Anne play… is it just me or does it get better?

    Thanks for any suggestions! 😊

Hi @jennifer.born ! Hand positions do improve over time if you are paying conscious effort in making them better! Although my daughter was the first one in my household to learn the harp, I decided to take two lessons with her teacher to get a solid start on my hand position so I could help my daughter. In retrospect I definitely think it was a good decision to take those two lessons! Many teachers such as Josh Layne offer one-off coaching sessions (as supposed to lessons which require some level or regular commitment). I recommend signing yourself up for one of those sessions if you were able to. 🙂

Thank you Victoria 😊 I have been trying to get a video lesson with Anne – I will email her again. I agree a good foundation is what I need. I thought I was doing that…until I recorded a video of myself playing – eek! 😬 Since it’s only been 3 months for me with my first harp, I will give myself a break – just this once 😉

      Thanks again! 😊😊😊

It’s great that you are paying attention to your hand position early on in your harp journey! Aside from recording myself playing, I also like to watch videos of other harpists and ask myself what I think of their hand positions and why they used their hands the way they did. It helps me pay attention at my hand positions in ways that I wouldn’t otherwise. Good luck with booking a session with Anne! 😀👍
