I’ve been researching dehumidifiers and reading reviews. The main thing I’ve read in some reviews is that the plugs get hot which concerns me.

Does anyone have suggestions to dehumidifier a room besides dehumidifiers? Does anyone have suggestions to dehumidifier a room besides plug in dehumidifiers?

Do you want to increase the humidity in the room on decrease it? I know you said “dehumidifier” but most harp people want to increase the humidity.

Dehumidify. My gauge shows the room right now at 55% which is fine. But it has gone up to 60% which worries me for the summer months.

I have a humidifier for the winter months that works great.

Right now my only solution is to put my harp in my living but this is not ideal.

Hi Amanda! I use both de & humidifier.I spoke with someone knowledgeable about electricity. Plugs do get warm. If warm to finger it is ok, if hot, obviously a problem. The biggest item is to know what all is on your circuit. When u plug in the unit do you have a micro wave that could run, a space heater etc? If on your circuit many rooms are receiving electricity from that line you need to watch those things. Go to circuit breaker & see what all is being serviced when u break the connection to that plug in. It is vital that no multi-tap outlet is used, no extension cord, no adaptor and no surge strip. These will cause issue with heat/fire. Common sense dictates no flammables around plug in, maintain an airspace and periodically check the plug in. Match the size of unit to room size. Don’t need a powerful electric draw from a big unit for a small room. Purchase a reputable brand dehumidifier. Set the # to an attainable level of comfort so when # achieved it will do auto-shut. That way it is not running 24/7.

I’d like to have my harp in the living room but the room is so large I would need a number of units to maintain required level. Guess I will need a harp trolley to navigate the house if I play for someone. I’m still trying to come up with some way to close off living room area without looking goofy to keep my harp there in an ideal environment. Hope this helps a little.

Hi again. I’ve read on different sites about a container that gives off moisture that can be put in the case. This is for guitar so would need research : https://store.dustystrings.com/p-7938-daddario-humidipack-maintain.aspxhttps://store.dustystrings.com/p-7938-daddario-humidipack-maintain.aspx. I’ve heard of people using a fan blowing over a bowl of water but that doesn’t sound safe and would require frequent checking. There really isn’t much out there for suggestions. If you do hit the jack pot let me know. I’m searching too. I even, desperately, searched all glass showers (some quite attractive) to put in corner of living room but then again, aesthetics.

It really depend on the level of humidity. We had 80% and over in winter months due to a damp house. so we have no choice but to run a dehidifier 24/7 and no far no over heating. We have a Meaco 12litres.

I found that airing the room even in rainy weather reduces humidity, I guess our house is more damp than the outdoors.

All the chemical dehumidifies are really ineffective, take forever to activate and remove miniscule amount. Perhaps suitable for a spice cupboard but even then the effect is dubious.

With real high humidity only a dehumidifier will help. But then it is bout preventing humidity changes, no? Avoiding dtying out is the main concern, but our humidity here does not ever frop below 45…lol
