I’ve been recording my progress since I started learning, and I’m at the point where I want to improve the audio of my videos. I only want simple microphones (USB mic?) that can be connected directly to my phone, which I use to record the videos. I currently have a Blue Yeti Nano, but to me the sound is a little muffled and could be better. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube reviews and most of them were focusing on podcast or voice-over. Does anyone know the best USB mic for instruments, particularly harp?

Hello, this video by Ann Crosby Gaudet could interest you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWMpEb7mv5k

She is comparing various microphones with the same harp. I still didn’t watch the whole video, and I don’t know if you can connect those directly to a phone, but it’s in my bookmarks since a while – you remind me to think about a better mic than my phone soon, thanks 😉

Hi, I actually bought the Yeti Nano based on this video! To be honest, my favorite was the K&K big twin pickup, but that means I would have to stick it on the harp and connect to an interface, I don’t know if I could then connect to my phone. Yeti came second because of the warm sound that I like, but I guess my Ogden is warmer than Dusty String by default (?) making it not sound as clear through the mic. This is indeed the best video about mics for harp that I could find on the internet. This is my most recent recording with the Yeti Nano (sorry for the imperfections, I’m still learning): https://youtu.be/BI_JRa2rvxkhttps://youtu.be/BI_JRa2rvxk

I am an Apple user, and bought the Shure MV88 that Anne demos in the video. Sweet little mic and stand that turns my iPhone into a production studio. It uses the MOTIV app to capture audio and video (and comes with adapters for both iPhone and iPad. I had no problem importing the audio into GarageBand to mix. The only complaint I had was the length of the iPad cord. To get the mic close enough to record, the iPad was too close to view the entire harp, which is not a problem for audio only recordings. So I bought a longer cable for use in videos.
