Edelweiss is a nostalgic song from the musical “The Sound of Music”. The Edelweiss flower represents love for the homeland of Austria, and there is a special moment in the movie where the captain rediscovers his love for music by singing this song with his children. Christy-Lyn’s harp arrangement captures the beautiful simplicity of the song, with enough variation and interest to make it a piece that you will want to keep playing again and again.

Difficulty level & Skills required

Mid-intermediate: The left hand has a few different patterns that include 10th intervals and crossing under. There are quickly repeated notes in the melody which can be a challenge, but the fingering has been carefully chosen to help with this.

    A very uplifting piece.

I liked to play it slow in the beginning because it’s like a love song. But when playing the same speed as in Christy’’s video, the piece brings an uplifting spirit👍. It’s lovely too 🌷

I had gone through half of the course, but in my excitement downloaded more pieces, so I am going over my unfinished courses/pieces now, as Christy -Lyn suggested in one of her videos. It was helpful to finish off learning the rest of the course, I have performed it in some songs as background music before, but knew I really needed to polish up. My only annoyance is that my harp is 22 string and so I cannot take the song up an octave!

I thought this was a good teaching lesson and you gave some very good tips and encouragement that helped me not to stop. I thought I would never be able to stretch my hand to reach that C note in measure 2 but it finally came. I still have to really stretch it though. Thank you Christy-Lyn!
