    Hello!

I am new to the forum, but I have been watching Christy-lyn’s videos on YouTube and really enjoying them! I can’t wait to learn to play from her. After much research, I bought my first harp today! Of course, it will be some time before it is ready for me to start playing, but I am very excited to begin! As a bit of background, I am a pianist and piano teacher, so I have a firm musical background as far as theory and piano goes. My siblings and I are all musicians and enjoy playing together and supporting each other as we learn different instruments. They are just as excited as I am for me to learn the harp, so it’s fun to have that support!

I hope this question makes sense, but how do you all recommend using Christy-lyn’s courses for beginners? I purchased Playing the Harp Beautifully and the companion DVD to use as a method book, and I plan to also watch Christy-Lyn’s “Your Very First Lesson” video. But I was wondering the best way to use Christy-Lyn’s courses in conjunction with studies in the method book. Am I correct in understanding that the courses are more like supplementary repertoire from an exceptional teacher, rather than a series of connected lessons themselves? Meaning that I would progress through my method book and add Christy-Lynn’s courses as I feel ready for them – they aren’t a stand-alone lesson program, right? Thank you all for your help! This looks like such a neat community of people; I’m so happy to get to join!

    Happy New Year!

Welcome Abby! So excited for you to begin your harp journey.

My experience was I finished volumes I & 2 of Playing the Harp Beautifully before I found Christy Lynn. Her free Sally Gardens course drew me in and I started on her courses with supplementary harp exercises books and other sheet music.

So you’re pretty accurate about the Christy Lynn’s courses being a supplementary repertoire.

After Sally Gardens, I was leaning towards early intermediate courses and above because of having completed the two volumes of Playing the Harp Beautifully.

But if I’ve found Christy Lynn earlier in my harp journey like you have, I would add her beginner courses as I progress in Pamela Bruner’s books.
