Norwegian Wedding
Norsk Brudmarsch
In Scandinavia, it is customary for a bride and groom to be picked up from home by the village community and musicians with a bridal march and brought to the church.
I learnt this tune some years ago from a recording and the leadsheet of the swedish harpist and “Rijksspelman” Erik Ask-Upmark and altered the chords and chord patterns to my preferences. My old audio on soundcloud, played on a small harp (range AA-g: https://soundcloud.com/lydia-gaertner-722021108/norsk-brudmarsch
Sheet music available with fingering on the melody and lots of versions of accompaniment in various levels for big and small harps: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/eddfu4c0jhuen95/AABmIw6b3pdOaUG2KNTvVoOpa?dl=0
I planned to do 3 playthroughs, more ore less from the 3 single sheets: Single Note Accompaniment (or optional octaves), then Broken 5th (optional broken 8ths with 5ths which is somehow easier for me), and at last, my slightly changed standard version either with broken triads (or broken full chords).
The mentioned options should fit to the chosen playthrough. One can also choose the option playing only melody or playing only accompaniment without melody.
If someone is good at improvising, it is worth a try – but then we have to listen through first before we decide if we take it.
The video tutorials are in the making, links posted later below (don’t expect high quality, it is my first time to produce a tutorial, and I’m not the born teacher 😬- although I want to go on with Swedish and German modern trad. tunes later – if anyone is interested).
The Master/ Tick Track with which you can record yourself will follow latest on Friday 25th of June Night MET – it depends how often I have to try the recording or how long I need to cut it.
Read the info carefully, listen to my soundcloud track as often as possible, later then to the actual playthrough, to get the melody and chords intuitively into your head and look through the sheet music which level suits you.
If you want to be part of the current recording, you should have a video recorded after the Master Track ready latest on July, 1st.
Hesitant if you’re able to do this? I myself still are not perfect with the tune (I can’t tell you how many cuts I did in the soundcloud audio I recorded some years ago to make it sound smooth – the cutting took more time than the recording) and with this project I do many things the first time. It is a big challenge for me, but I have a lot of fun with it.
It is a chance to grow beyond yourself
