Wrist Pain
Hi Everyone, just wanted to share my wrist story in case it helps anyone. I started the harp about a year and a half ago, and being old, wanted to learn “very fast”. My determination made me tense as I tried to learn correct hand position. I developed wrist pain beneath my right thumb and went to a hand specialist. The diagnosis was DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis. Two cortisone shots helped, but I finally gave up and had surgery to release the tendon. It is kind of like carpal tunnel in a different area (already had carpal tunnel surgery years ago). Recovery was slow but good. The moral of this story is to FOCUS ON RELAXING YOUR HANDS COMPLETELY after each pluck! Breathe! Smile as you play!
