How To Configure Your Audio Settings For Playing Harp on Zoom

Zoom thinks that harp music is background noise, so unless you change settings no one will be able to hear when you play. To rectify this, you need to ensure your Zoom is set to the correct audio settings.

NB: These settings are handled differently depending on whether you’re using a laptop/desktop computer OR a tablet/phone/mobile device. Please make sure this works prior to your Zoom call.

💻 On a Laptop / Desktop Computer:

This can be done in one of two ways: before a Zoom call or during a Zoom call

Before a Zoom call:

  • Log in to the Zoom app on you computer
  • Click the cog to open the settings page on the top right corner of the app
  • Choose ‘Audio’ from the panel on the left hand side
  • Under “Audio profile” click “original sound for musicians”
  • Make sure that ‘High-fidelity music mode’ and ‘Echo Cancelation” are both ticked
  • Close the Audio settings window. When you join a zoom call you will see a new button in the top right corner called “Original Sound for Musicians”. Click this button so it changes to say that it’s ‘on’

During a Zoom call:

  • Click the arrow next to the mute button in bottom left-hand corner of the Zoom screen
  • Click “Audio settings”
  • Under “Audio profile” click “original sound for musicians”
  • Make sure that ‘High-fidelity music mode’ and ‘Echo Cancelation” are both ticked
  • Close the Audio settings window and you will now see a new button in the top right corner called “Original Sound for Musicians”. Click this button so it changes to say that it’s ‘on’

📱 On a Tablet / Phone / Mobile device:

This requires a setting to be enabled before joining a Zoom Call. If you have already joined the Zoom call and your audio is not working on your tablet/phone/mobile device, then you will need to leave the Zoom call and follow the instructions below:

    • Yes, tap the profile icon on the top left hand corner (next to the ‘Home’ heading) and then tap ‘Settings’
    • No, tap the settings cog at the top left hand corner of the screen
  • Select the ‘Audio’ option
  • Tap ‘Original sound for musicians’ so that the tick is next to that open.

This only needs to be done once, and then double-checked whenever Zoom updates the App.

During a Zoom call:
