Amazing Grace is probably the most well-known hymn in the world! It’s a great piece to have in your repertoire because everyone will recognise it. This arrangement keeps things as simple as possible, while retaining the melody and chords we know and love.

This is a great mid-beginner piece. If you can read music or do basic musical counting and are familiar with the notes on your harp and basic harp fingering, then you are ready to play Amazing Grace. Christy-Lyn goes through the piece section by section, nice and slow, encouraging you not to get too comfortable with one hand’s part before joining it with the other. She also reviews the position of your fingers, hands, wrists, and elbows. And of course, she demonstrates where the harp should be resting on your shoulder. If this piece is challenging, she encourages you to keep trying and practicing until the part is learned. As she says, this is an excellent piece to add to your repertoire, and as very simple as it is, it is quite lovely.

I got my first harp and tried the free courses, “Sailing On the Lake” and “Clouds Are Parting.” I signed up for membership and enrolled in “Amazing Grace” as my third piece. The lessons were clear and concise. Christy-Lyn is always upbeat and encouraging. I appreciate the emphasis on proper technique and a slow tempo. I’m still not perfect, but much improved. I plan to play “Amazing Grace” at the nursing home at my next monthly visit there. I’m looking forward to my next piece.

I loved learning Amazing Grace. Learning this piece helped to get me back on track to playing the harp. God placed it on my heart to play and He has given me the inspiration to keep going. It is my worship to Him. I also believe it will be an inspiration to others. Thank you Christy-Lyn for these amazing courses. I have confidence again.

Amazing Grace was the first video for me to actually learn something and play it through without hesitating every time I have to move my fingers. She demonstrates and explains exactly how to place fingers and how to read ahead and get ready for the next change. I learned to read music playing classical guitar but reading two staves, treble and bass, at the same time is a challenge for me. Can’t wait to start the next piece!

What a brilliant resource! I have been trying to find a Harp teacher near me for so long without luck and have been sort of trying to teach myself (which I’m not great at). I kept rushing through pieces badly, full of hesitations and mistakes, thinking that just practice would work. I stumbled across these courses by accident and was hooked. I have just completed Amazing Grace and I have my harp excitement and mojo back. Thankyou so much.

“Amazing Grace” Video Course was not too hard. I’ve been playing for some time now, and this was good for a refresher. It was a little tricky too but as I got more familiar with it, it became easier. Christy-Lyn is a lovely teacher, and she explains things so clearly and pleasantly. Thank you so much!

Amazing Grace is organized in such a way as to be easy to follow. Christy-Lynn has a gift of bringing music achievement within my reach; this is the mark of a gifted teacher. She is so positive, encouraging, clear and concise. I look forward to each lesson. Because of her courses, I am learning to play my first musical instrument at the age of 68. My husband and children are amazed and happy too.

The counting was confusing to me. I wasn’t sure on which count I was to pluck the strings. My husband pointed out that there were 1/2 notes and 1/4 notes so that was why you did not pluck a string on every count. A half note would be pluck, wait (or one, two). I am so glad to be able to play this beautiful & inspiring hymn – will continue to work on the counting. Thank you!!

I’ve been playing around as a beginner for the last few months (I play guitar and have studied a bit of music in the past so not a total beginner). Overall this was a great video, easy to follow and the teacher is so pleasant and engaging. 🙂

This was so nice to follow along, and I was able to get through the series as a beginner. The only feedback I have is that it would be nice to see your left hand from the other side (maybe that could be similar to the video of your face in a smaller box on the screen). Great videos, thank you!

Really good, but needs to focus more on counting

    kellie macfarlane (verified owner)

Awesome lesson, thank you. The only feedback I have for this lesson (and the other lessons I have done) is that it would be easier for the learner’s muscle memory if the counting was taught earlier on in each segment. For example, instead of saying “next play GE, then next play GEC”, it would be easier to always say “GE on count 1,2, then GEC on count 3,1,2”. And the counting could have maybe been taught a bit more clearly in this tutorial. I think other users also mentioned this below. And it would have been nicer to be a little longer than 30 seconds. I didn’t pay attention to the length of the piece in the demo recording. Overall though it was a great lesson and excellent tutoring.
