I have a question about the last 6 gut strings on my pedal harp. They all break in the same spot- anywhere from the bridge pin to the top of the tuning pin. I’m eyeing an F that is currently fraying on the last wrap at the top of the tuning pin. I have a D that’s fraying halfway between the bridge pin and the tuning pin.

    .

But let me tell you about this 5th octave B that stands for Bane of my existence. It breaks every 4-6 months near the tuning pin. I have 3 wraps around it and I checked the pins for burrs. I’ve ordered some abrasive cord, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how that helps exactly.

    .

So if there was a burr within the hole of the tuning pin, how would this cause a break on the last wrap or even below the tuning pin? Shouldn’t the break occur at the burr?
