Hi 👋 brand new harpist, just got my harp last week and broke a string after tuning it, haven’t even played it 😔

Where is the best store to buy strings? And do you get them all??? Help! Thank you in advance 🙏🏽

Hello! It’s easier to get replacement strings than I had realized when I first broke one.
Mine is a Triplett, so I went to their website. Chances are you can get guidance about which type of string to purchase that way. I think you can purchase one or full sets or anything in between.

Most of all, don’t let it slow you down! Best of luck. 😊

Hi Julia 🙂 Thank you for responding – I did check and you can buy one string at a time, you are right! – just the shipping time that takes so long 🙃 Oh well, I’m just not going to play the “B” string for awhile! 🤣 Thank you again! 😊

It’s often useful to have what is called a skeleton set on hand. This is a set of 3 replacement strings for each octave of your harp.

For each string gauge you can get away with using it a few notes either side in a pinch. I recycle my broken strings this way, instead of throwing it out I keep it and use it to replace the string next to it. The shorter length of the broken string is often long enough to restring the next note up and the gauge is usually the same or so similar it does not matter.

Your harp maker will have a stringing chart for buying replacement strings, Vanderbilt in the US are a major string supplier.
