Hello everyone! I would like tips and trick on how to STOP over playing on a harpcicle. Also I need help with my hand positions and especially the thumb plucking. I tend to plus out instead of forward. Any tips? How can I practice this ?

Can you describe what over playing looks like for you?

For thumb plucking, try placing your hand on the strings (pick any four notes in a row and place thumb, second, third, and forth finger on them) and practice plucking with the thumb while paying close attention to how your thumb closes. Anchoring the other fingers on the strings while you practice plucking the thumb should give your hand more stability and reduce the chance of the thumb pushing out while plucking. In your video recorded on April 12, your thumb pushed out because your entire hand was moving away from the string after you used the thumb. Keeping the other fingers anchored on the strings while you practice the thumb plucking motion should mitigate that and also help build your muscle memory on where the thumb should be pointing towards after plucking a string.

Pay attention to how you are using the hands too in general. In the Fur Elise video that you shared in the LTH Facebook group, your hands look pretty tense which may contribute towards the rigidity of finger movement. Josh Layne often emphasizes the importance of having your hands in a relaxed position when playing the harp. There is a good demo on hand position and movement, and it also specifically talks about the motion of the thumb: https://youtu.be/vrvrT_LObw8
