Light strips for harps how and where to attach-help
-
Was wondering how people use lights on their harps. Bought the strip but not sure where to attach it to my harp. My harpsicle doesn’t have a place to fish strip into sound box at top. I would love a picture of how you attached your lights. I’m 70 and the strings are hard to clearly see. Thanks to anyone who has any suggestions.

you can attach the strip light on the under side of the arch on the right hand side and a thin strip of strong double sided tape to hold the wire in place (underneath the wire) and also use this to attach the battery box or charger on the back of the sound box 🙂

The lights I bought were suggested by Christy-Lyn on her video Eyesight problems 10 tips and the link is below the video. Was July 23, 2020

Musical Molly Khan just uploaded a YouTube video on how to install LED harp lights (dated March 1, 2021) And if you have questions she responds quickly.

Here is. Video that Musical Molly Khan did just the other day. Mine are supposed to come tomorrow. I didn’t buy the expensive ones at the harp Can get the same thing on Amazon for a 6th of the price. I have used these lights under the counter in my laundry room and coffee bar and they are also inside my glass front cupboards. So don’t buy them from a harp store. The mark up is ridiculous. Here’s a link to her video. I suggest getting them with the remote so that y0u don’t have to always stick your hand inside the light box to turn them on and off. https://youtu.be/R9KK-FKwPoY

I’d love to have lights but my concern is the effect of the adhesive on the wood finish. Is the adhesive harmful over an extended period of time? Does the strip remove easily? Is there remaining residue? If so, what is the safe method of removal? Anyone have any experience with removing the light strip or sticky tape? Thanks!

Apart from damage to the finish and hard to remove residu, there’s also the fact that all the spots where the sunlight can’t come, won’t get the same ‘sun tan’ as the rest of the harp. Wood gets a bit darker colour in the sun after some time. You will notice this mainly with new harps, as older harps already have developed a kind of ‘sun tan’, so you won’t notice it as much, or even at all.
The question of damage to the finish doesn’t only depend on the kind of glue of the light strip, but also on the kind of finish used for the harp. Some kinds of finishes are more vulnerable than others.
You may find more information on these kinds of things in guitar forums where they speak of removing stickers etc.
